The World Series of Poker Main Event is the Super Bowl of Poker. The big difference is that everyone can play in the tournament -- so long as they have $10,000.
There’s also no dress code.
That allows players to rock whatever they want at the poker table whether it’s a T-shirt, tuxedo, spider-man costume or jersey.
Jerseys are actually one of the most popular items of clothing at the WSOP, which makes sense considering the massive crossover between sports fans and poker.
Every year hundreds of jersey-wearing poker players buy into various events at the WSOP.
This year we decided to do a very unscientific study to get a rough idea of what jerseys are the most popular to wear in the biggest poker tournament of the year.
Here’s what we learned:
Pretty much all pro sports in North America are represented with NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA and NHL all accounted for. Of course poker is a global game and that means soccer jerseys from various leagues in Europe. Football jerseys were the most popular with Steelers, Seahawks and Broncos’ jerseys leading the way. As far as Individual jerseys were concerned Chicago Blackhawk Patrick Kane and Indianapolis Colt Andrew Luck were the most popular. Kane just won a third Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks so that’s understandable. Meanwhile Luck carried the Colts to a showdown with the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
